Presentation topic:
Uhde Inventa-Fischer’s recycling technologies for PET

Abstract
Abstract
Uhde Inventa-Fischer, known for its advanced polycondensation technology MTR® (Melt to Resin) for bottle-grade PET chips and its innovative recycling technology FTR® (PCR flakes to resin), has developed a new patented technology for PET recycling called FTR®plus. At the end of 2024, UIF successfully started up the first commercial FTR®plus plant in collaboration with Alpek. This groundbreaking technology allows the melting of flakes without the use of an extruder, saving up to 60% of conversion costs compared to the former FTR process, resulting in significant investment savings and offering numerous advantages.

Advantages of the FTR®plus Technology:
-
Low Shear Stress: Less byproducts and product damage during flakes melting.
-
Energy Savings: Shift of melting energy from electrical energy to HTM energy, significantly reducing operating costs.
-
Reduced Capital Expenditures: Use of a dynamic mixer instead of an extruder.
-
Effective Color Removal: Low viscosity melt filtration removes unwanted colorants, allowing a broader range of feedstock.
-
Seamless Integration: Fast transition between recycling products and virgin products
