As Mayor, I am delighted that PETnology is holding its conference here at the OST in Rapperswil-Jona. As a university town, we are proud of the innovations that are developed and implemented here. I hope you will find inspiration in this stimulating and exciting environment.
​
A look out the window or a walk in the surrounding countryside will also be inspiring. Directly in front of the OST you can enjoy the shores of Lake Zurich and a wonderful panoramic view from the wooden footbridge towards Hurden. The historic old town is just a few steps away. The castle is enthroned on the castle hill and there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops to explore.

But the town also has a lot to offer economically. The agglomeration of Rapperswil-Jona lies in the orbit of one of Europe's most attractive economic regions. Its proximity to the economic powerhouse of Zurich is a source of strength for the town's many companies. Economic development is also very important in the city. Rapperswil-Jona has recently launched its own urban economic development institution called "Impulsort", which means "place of inspiration". It is located in the Weidmann area - an industrial park with a history dating back to 1850 -, which is currently very dynamic. It has already had some success in attracting start-ups.
